Know before you go
Off-leash parks need a tag
Chicago Park District dog-friendly areas require a DFA permit and tag for each dog, from a participating vet, plus a city dog license and current shots.
Patios, not dining rooms
Dogs generally aren't allowed inside Chicago restaurants. Patios are fair game where the restaurant allows it. Policies change, so call ahead.
Winter mode
Park water fountains get shut off in the cold months. Bring water, and paw balm for the salt.
Divvy with a dog
Small pups can ride along in a secure backpack. Leashed walking dogs and bikes don't mix in downtown traffic.
